Frustration turned to idea

Back in 2024, I was frustrated with the sportswear industry — especially when it came to women’s padel clothing. I had spent so much time and money searching for dresses and skirts that truly ticked all the boxes: quality, fit, colour, functionality, and fair pricing. More often than not, something was always missing. I’d find a colour I loved, but the undershorts were impractical. A dress would look amazing online, but the material felt cheap, there were no pockets, or the sizing felt completely off. And after spending a lot of money on something that still didn’t feel right, I kept thinking: what a waste. I found myself rotating between the same few outfits while constantly searching for something better.

Developing the designs

Eventually, I stopped asking why I couldn’t find it and started asking myself: if I designed sportswear, what would I want it to feel like? What features would actually matter to women who play, move, and live in these clothes? That’s when the ideas started flooding in. I had zero experience in clothing manufacturing. My background is in genetics and software development, and I’ve always approached challenges with a scientific mindset — researching, testing, refining, and solving problems.

It all started with an idea, and a poor sketch that got my idea across... turning a classic style, the wrap dress, into sportswear.

Finding the right people

I hired women who shared the same values and vision to help bring the brand to life, from fashion consultants to accountants and manufacturers. What followed was more than two years of prototypes, redesigns, sourcing, testing, and countless back-and-forth conversations to perfect every detail.

The vision and mission

We decided to begin with a small release so we could focus entirely on quality, fit, and functionality before expanding further.

The vision behind the brand became much bigger than simply creating beautiful sportswear. We wanted to build something inclusive and innovative — designs that truly consider women’s bodies and how they change, not only throughout life but even from day to day. Because if you’re a woman, you know your body never feels exactly the same every day, and your clothes should move with you, not against you. Our goal is to create pieces that last, feel good, and can be mixed, matched, and worn across different settings and moments in life.

Our origins and inspiration

Macau Street 8 was named after my grandparents’ home, where my family grew up and spent time together. That place shaped so much of who I am today, and I wanted the brand to carry a piece of that story and sense of belonging with it.

Special thanks to those that matter most

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of three incredible people: my mum — the strongest woman I know, my friend and partner in crime — my partner, who believed in this vision from the very beginning, long before it became a reality — and my brother, who never says no to a creative challenge.

This journey started with frustration, but it became a challenge I couldn’t walk away from. And if there’s one thing about me, it’s that I rarely give up on a challenge - padel or otherwise.

See you on the court xx
